Best Gaming Laptop Specs – Latest Gen RAM, H/HS/HX Series Processor, RTX Graphic Card and More!

A gaming laptop needs powerful specs like a larger amount of RAM, a powerful H-series processor (H/HX/HS), NVMe storage, and a dedicated graphics card. If these things are present in your laptop, then you can smoothly play PC games or AAA games without any lag. So, if you have been looking for a gaming laptop to elevate your gaming experience to next level like a pro, then stay with us as we are going to reveal some of the best gaming models of different brands below.

Best Specifications for a Gaming Laptop

Before we continue, let me tell you what exactly you need to look for in a gaming laptop before buying it.

#1. RAM Gen and Size

RAM is temporary storage – more RAM means better speed. Hence, for a gaming laptop, a minimum of 16GB is recommended. You can also pick a laptop with 24GB or 32GB RAM capacity. But for now, if your budget is limited, go with 16GB of RAM and upgrade to 24GB or 32GB later. It is always advised to buy a laptop with two-stick (dual channel) options available; for example, if you choose a 16GB variant today, then after a year you can install a second 16GB stick and upgrade your laptop’s RAM to 32GB!

One more thing, while choosing RAM go with latest generation like DDR5. A laptop having DDR5 instead DDR4, offers slightly better speed ( to better performance) as you will get up to the bandwidth of DDR4. In future if DDR6 comes, then opt for DDR6!

#2. Processor Choice

In a gaming laptop, or even if you opt for a creator’s laptop (video editing laptop), the processor category is quite important. If you select the wrong category here, it would be a blunder, no matter how much RAM you choose! So, selecting the right processor is very important when buying a gaming laptop. Let me explain some common types of processors:

  • U and P Series Processors (Avoid): In laptops, you see U-series, P-series, and H-series processors. U-series processors are power-efficient, meaning they are mostly available in business-type laptops where you need more battery backup for longer periods, like 5–6 hours. These types of processors consume less power as they default run on 15W, and hence you can’t play heavy PC games on these laptops… even if you try, the gaming will lag. The same goes for P-series processors; they are a bit faster than U-series but not enough to handle AAA games!

  • H Series Processors (Go for this): Another series you get in laptops is the H-series. Here H in processor means a high-performance processor which is designed to handle heavy tasks. Hence, H-series processors are recommended for gaming. In the H-series, you get high-performance cores and have a Processor Base Power (PBP) of 45W. More power means your system will handle heavy tasks easily. In addition, the HX series is also available, which is even more powerful than the H-series as it consumes more power (from 55W to max 157 W). HX means you will get performance just like a desktop processor.

Most Common H-Series Processors From Intel

In Intel, the processor cores are hybrid; hence, in Intel H-series you get a combination of P-cores (Performance cores) and E-cores (Efficiency cores). For heavy tasks like gaming or editing, P-cores work, while for light use, E-cores work.

  • H-series: Core i5-13420H having 8 cores (4P + 4E), Core Ultra 5 125H (4P + 8E + 2LPE), Core Ultra 7 155H 16 (6P + 8E + 2LPE).

  • HX-series: Core i5-13450HX (6P + 4E), Core i7-13650HX (6P + 8E)

The H series processors have a Processor Base Power (PBP) of 45W and a Maximum Turbo Power (MTP) that often reaches up to 115W. The HX series processors have a higher PBP of 55W and an MTP that can go as high as 157W (depending on the specific model and cooling solution).

Most Common H-Series Processors From AMD

In AMD, most processors have only P-cores, but recently a few processors have opted for a hybrid model like Intel. Also, in AMD you will encounter the HS term… it means they are a bit more power-efficient but enough to handle heavy loads.

So, in AMD you will find laptops with H, HS, and HX series processors. Where HS is the least powerful (TDP ~35W), H is somewhere in the middle (~45W TDP), and HX is the most powerful processor (~45+W TDP).

As I said, H-series processors are not power-friendly as they consume too much power, and while using the laptop you will hardly get up to 2 hours of backup. So in this case, if you are looking for a powerful gaming laptop with good battery backup, then AMD’s HS series would be a good pick!

  • H Series: Ryzen 5 7640H/8640H, Ryzen 7 7840H/8840H, Ryzen 9 7940H/8945H

  • HS Series: Ryzen 5 7640HS/8645HS, Ryzen 7 7840HS/8845HS, Ryzen 9 7940HS/8945HS

  • HX Series: Ryzen 7 7745HX/8745HX, Ryzen 9 7845HX/8945HX

Under a budget of INR 1 Lakh, you will find laptops with AMD’s H or HS series. My suggestion is to pick an AMD processor with a built-in Radeon graphics card. Do not buy a laptop having AMD’s 7435HS/7400F/7235HS processors… as they have no in-build GPU, meaning your laptop always needs a dedicated GPU to display basic graphics. This will consume more battery, as the graphics card will run even to show basic visuals… leading to less battery backup!

Note: Gaming laptops with AMD processors are less costly, while in Intel you pay a slightly higher price for the same specifications. As per my research… AMD gaming laptops with an HS-series processor and an RTX 4050 are Rs. 10,000 cheaper than those with an Intel H-series processor.

#3. Graphics Card

Graphics cards are like wheels that help render graphics smoothly. For a gaming laptop, a dedicated graphics card having GPU, VRAM, and cooling unit is mandatory. By opting a powerful graphics card, you can easily play AAA games on your laptop for a longer period, and it will enhance the overall experience.

At present, a minimum of 6-8GB graphics card is recommended for playing PC games. If you can opt for a larger size latest gen GPU, then it is a plus and better for future gaming. In the market, RTX 4050/4060 and RTX 5050/5060 are currently available to buy to play AAA game titles on your laptop for the next 3–4 years!

Best Gaming Laptops under ₹1 Lakh

Intel Core Ultra processors feature the new Intel Arc integrated graphics, which are capable of playing many modern AAA games at playable frame rates () at resolution. However, this performance typically requires using Low to Medium graphics settings and enabling upscaling technology like Intel XeSS. If you love gaming, keep dedicated graphic card in your laptop buying list!

MSI Cyborg 15 AI PC comes with 2 year warranty and you can get it from MSI official website or from Flipkart in around ₹89,000. While buying make sure MSI has service center in your city!

Final Words

With nearly same specs like H series processor, 16GB RAM, RTX 4050/4060 or 5050/5060, you can buy gaming laptop from Lenovo, Dell, and HP stores too. Lenovo’s LOQ series is too popular and based on your personal gaming requirement you can buy gaming laptop from Lenovo!

If budget is not a big issue and you can spend 40 to 50,000 more then I would recommend go with latest generation of processors having 6 performance cores, 32GB RAM (dual channel), and 8GB, 12GB,  or 24 GB graphic card like RTX 5070, 5080, 5090 or future variants like 6060,6070, 60xx etc!
