Nowadays the trend of dating apps is growing rapidly, and Bumble is one of the popular platforms among them. But have you ever noticed what the small icons and symbols that appear on the interface of Bumble mean? Often users keep swiping without understanding them, whereas by understanding these icons you can make better use of the app. I have used Bumble myself and it took some time to understand all the icons here. Today I will tell you based on my experience what these symbols represent and how to use them correctly.
First of all, when you open the Bumble app, a navigation bar appears at the bottom. It has five icons – Profile (person icon), Discover (Compass), People (Bumble logo), Liked You (heart-shaped), and Chat (chat bubble icon). Here’s the meaning of each and every icon and what they do…
-
Profile (Person icon)
-
The person icon takes you to your profile settings, where you can edit your bio, upload photos, set the preferences, activate notifications, and update other personal info.
-
-
Discover (Compass icon)
-
Shows you potential matches you can swipe on (left to pass, right to like). This is the main swipe screen.
-
-
People (Bumble logo icon)
-
Takes you to Bumble modes, such as:
-
Date (for romantic matches)
-
BFF (to make friends)
-
Bizz (for professional networking)
-
-
You can switch between these modes here.
-
-
Liked You (Heart-shaped icon)
-
Shows you people who’ve already liked you (available only with Bumble Premium or Boost). You can swipe through them directly.
-
-
Chat (Chat bubble icon)
-
Opens your conversation inbox, showing active matches and ongoing chats.
-
Now let’s talk about the icons that appear on the swiping page. When you view a profile, you see a few buttons at the bottom – X (reject), Badge (super swipe), Heart (like), and Boost (lightning icon). By clicking on the X icon, you do not select that profile, while the heart icon gives you a like. The Badge icon is a special feature called “Super Swipe”. It works just like Tinder’s “Super Like” – you can use it if you want to impress someone, but it is available in limited numbers. The Boost icon is a paid feature that makes your profile reach more people.
There are some other important icons that appear in the chat section. When you match with someone, the chat window opens. Here you can see symbols like a green dot (online status), a blue tick (verified profile), and a colorful hexagon (interest badge). The green dot indicates that the user is currently online, while the blue tick indicates that the profile is verified & trusted, i.e. not fake. The interest badge shows activities or hobbies that both users share – this feature is quite useful as it makes it easier to start a conversation.
One of the special things about Bumble is that it gives women the right to send the first message (in case of heterosexual matches). So, when a match is made, male users see a message like “She has to make the first move”. If the female user does not send a message within 24 hours, the match ends. However, this rule does not apply in Bumble BFF (for friendship) and business networking modes.
Also, sometimes you might see a status like “Connection Lost” on your profile. This means that the other user has unmatched you or has deleted the app. This is a little disappointing to see, but it is a common thing on dating apps.
Finally, Bumble also has some hidden icons that are worth paying attention to. Like, the Beam icon, which temporarily highlights your profile, or the Snooze mode, in which you can pause the profile for some time. These small features make the app experience even better. Here’s a table that can give you more clear idea on all Icons and Symbols mean on Bumble app…
So the next time you use Bumble app on mobile, pay attention to these icons and symbols. These will not only help you understand the app better, but will also improve your dating strategy.
